Winter 2017 Burlesque Experience Bust-Out

Friday, March 10th, 2017

"The Quixotic World" Theatre House

2824 Main Street

Dallas TX 75226

$20 at door or online. VIP tickets sold out.

Purchase GA tickets here.

Doors open at 8. Show starts at 9.

The World's Greatest Burlesque Audience! That's YOU!

Please read for important info about our upcoming “BUST-OUT”...

Online box office closes day of show, at 5p.

You can also pay at the door, cash preferred, please! Credit cards also accepted.

You can print the Yapsody tickets, or when you check in, refer to the name of the credit card holder that the purchase was made by. This is especially important if someone purchased your ticket for you. Most importantly, you must know the name of your ticket purchaser.

Parking/Logistics

There are numerous paid parking lots in Deep Ellum on Main or one block over, most of them in the $5-7 range. There is limited street parking as well, you will need to feed the meter.

Be sure to pay your lot or your meter- they boot cars in this neighborhood and wouldn't that be a sucky way to end your night?

When looking for the building (corner of Main and Malcolm X in Deep Ellum),  look for a large RED corner building, with red carpet, velvet ropes and red lights outside.

Doors open at 8p, mixing and mingling til 9.

Show runs from about 9 to about 10:30. Afterglow Dance Party til 12!

First burlesque show?

Yay! We love burlesque ‘virgins!” Do expect some naughty fun and sexy dances. There will be stripping, sexual innuendo, sexual comedy and tantalizingly sensual and erotic numbers.

There will be plenty of skin, booty and booby flashing, but no“technical” nudity, cuz Texas state law prohibits it. (ie, no nips, bare cracks or crotch.)

Expect everything else.

Hootin', hollerin', whistling and carrying-on is highly encouraged. Heckling is in terrible taste and will not be tolerated.

What's unique about our shows vs. other burlesque shows is that the women are performing for the very first time. Ask yourself what kind of audience YOU would want if you were stripping in front of 200+ people for the first time, and then be that audience!

You are not just going to a show! You are helping create a life-changing experience and memories that will last forever for these brave and beautiful women.

Wondering what to wear?

There is no enforced dress code for this event, but it’s a SEXY venue and a sexy show… so wear what makes you feel sexy!

"Dress to express!"

Vintage, pin-up, corsets, cocktail and burlesque-style couture highly encouraged. We love feathers, fishnets and flowers! (Plenty of lovely hair flowers available for donations, if you need help accessorizing!) Men, I dare you to break out that suit and fedora. It will add to the fun fantasy feel of the evening!

VERY IMPORTANT! The Privacy Rule

To respect the privacy of our performers, NO PICTURES or video during the show. Feel free to snap away BEFORE or AFTER the show, but please honor the confidentiality of the women involved by not taking any images during their performances. We have authorized photographer and videographer to do so. Take lots of mental pictures, though.

Raffle tickets!

100% of raffle ticket sales goes directly to our Burlesque Experience Scholarship Fund.

This fund helps keeps this program accessible to women of various financial means. Each semester, we have students come through that might not otherwise have been able to, without some financial support.

When you buy raffle tickets, you help dreams come true!

We're grateful for every contribution, and your support means so much. The Burlesque Experience matches raffle ticket sales, dollar for dollar, for the scholarhip fund.

We have some awesome prizes to give away, too. Talk about "win-win!" Feeling lucky?

Keep your eye out for our traveling "Flower Babe" selling tickets and hair flowers. Tickets are $1.00 and you get a free hair flower when you buy 5!

Vendors

We are excited to have a handful of fun and exciting vendors for your shopping pleasure. Bring cash and credit cards and shop til you drop and support these local businesses!  We ask that you do your shopping before and after the show, and of course, during intermission.

Bar

Cash bar, credit cards accepted. Please drink responsibly and tip your bartender!

We can’t wait to see you at the show! You'll be seeing a whole lot of us!

A love note...

Posted by lisa carmen on September 23, 2013 at 9:25 PM Comments comments (0)

So here we are, at the near-end of the Fall 2013 Burlesque Experience. Our big BUST-OUT show is this Friday and it's amazing and a little bewildering that it all seemed to fly by so fast.

This group has done nothing short of blow me away. Not just with their bravery and aplomb in the face of a very typical and not so typical variety of limiting stories, monkey chatter, and fears...  some have even pushed thru in the midst of big challenges, personal crisis, overwhelm, even job and relationship transitions...they have stayed the course. Literally and figuratively.

I have witnessed them in awe as they choose new stories, they are embracing their power and their beauty. They are reconnecting with their true selves. They are discovering new aspects of themselves. They are owning their sexy and finding their mojo. They are creative, powerful and mighty goddesses and I've been impressed with them and the unfolding of this exciting adventure, every step along the way.

It's not just all those things that I love about this Fall group. What I've really loved most about them is the emergence of sisterhood and support. Watching relationships unfold, hearts open, love spill... it's been gorgeous to watch, to be part of, to experience.

A couple years ago, I began some conversations with a reality show producer. He seemed to love the concept, but the more we talked the more it became clear that he was looking for drama... the cat-fights... competitiveness... the uglier side of women coming together. The "reality" of women-vs.-women relations.

"You have to understand," he said. "People want 'good TV'. Sooo... some of the women might not like the way they are portrayed...'"

Needless to say, our conversations didn't last long. Because that is NOT The Burlesque Experience. That is NOT our Experience. There is a bonding, a sisterhood that happens, friendships form. There is love, bonding, undertstanding, growth and support. And if THAT doesn't make 'good TV'... I'm okay with that.

And I think most every woman who comes thru this program would agree with me: The Burlesque Experience is about much more than Burlesque. And it's truly one hell of an Experience.

Now ladies, LET'S PUT ON A SHOW!

With love, admiration and AWE,

Lisa Carmen

aka Carmen Diablo

"But I'm Scared"

Posted by lisa carmen on September 13, 2011 at 2:05 PM Comments comments (3)

These ladies know a thing or two about feeling the fear and doing it anyway!
This is their "post-show-afterglow!" Sexy, isn't it?
Photo by Cameron Kyle; Summer Session BUST-OUT 7.22.11

---------

by Lisa Carmen, aka Carmen Diablo

I often hear women say to me "I want to do this Burlesque Experience, but I'm scared..."  I have to chuckle from my own point of recognition- I'm scared quite often, too! But I do know this - that being scared no longer stops me from doing what I'm drawn to do.

In fact, IF you're scared, that's a great indication that this is something you should do. Feeling 'nothing' - eh... boring.

YES, you're scared- you should be. The entire Burlesque Experience will rock your comfort zones- from the dancing we do in class together that first week, to the big BUST-OUT the night you perform your solo for a live audience... this is scary stuff!

But it is also true that the joy, exhileration, pride and confidence you will feel on the other side FAR, FAR outweigh any fear you feel leading up to it.

In fact, I encourage women who AREN'T scared to check their pulse!

Instead of saying "I want to do this but I'm scared" what if you altered one little word... "I want to do this AND I"m scared."  You CAN be both scared and doing this. In fact, if you wait to NOT be scared, I doubt you'll do anything very exciting in your life!

SO come on ladies, FEEL THE FEAR and do it anyway. You will be sooo glad you did!

Burlesque Experience alumni, please comment below on the subject of feeling the fear and doing it anyway! I know YOU know how to do that!

p.s. Fall session is nearly filled up! Sign up asap to secure your spot! Class starts 10/7.

Parking/Logistics

There are numerous paid parking lots in Deep Ellum on Main or one block over, most of them in the $5-7 range. There is limited street parking as well, youwill need to feed the meter.

When looking for the building (corner of Main and Malcolm X in Deep Ellum), you will not see anything that says “Quixotic World”. Instead, look for a large RED corner building, with red carpet, velvet ropes and red lights outside. 2824 isalso painted on wall near entrance.

Doors open at 8p, mixing and mingling til 9.

Show runs from about 9 to about 10:30. Afterglow Dance Party til 12!

First burlesque show?

Yay! We love ‘virgins!” Do expect some naughty fun and sexy dances. There will be stripping, sexual innuendo, sexual comedy and tantalizingly sensual anderotic numbers. There will be plenty of skin, booty and booby flashing, but no“technical” nudity, cuz Texas state law prohibits it. (ie, no nips, cracks or crotch.) Expect everything else.

Hootin, hollerin, whistling and carrying-on is highly encouraged. Heckling is in terrible taste.

Wondering what to wear?

There is no enforced dress code for this event, but it’s a SEXY venue and a sexy show… so wear what makes you feel sexy! Vintage, pin-up, corsets, cocktailand burlesque style couture highly encouraged. We love feathers, fishnets and flowers! (Plenty of lovely hair flowers available for donations, if you needhelp accessorizing!) Men, I dare you to break out that suit and fedora. It willadd to the fun fantasy feel of the evening!
